Glenlakes Ladies Association Tournaments/Events
1. Rally for a Cure
The Ladies Golf Association holds an Annual Rally for a Cure, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Tournament.
There is a formatted game with this tournament but since this is a Charity Event, only minimal game prizes are awarded. There will, however, be a number of door prizes!
This tournament is open to all lady and men golfers. There will be notices and sign-up sheets posted in the clubhouse and it will also be advertised in the local newspapers.
Be sure to watch for the Rally Tournament Sign up Sheets and plan to participate in this worthy Charity Event.

2. Ladies Invitational
The LGA Invitational is held once a year normally in April. The LGA President will appoint a Chairperson to head this tournament and she and her Committee members will coordinate this tournament in its entirety.
Many LGA members will team up together as the format is usually a 2-person team effort. However, LGA members may invite someone from another Club as their partner. The only requirement is that each participant have a current and established USGA Handicap.
Watch for sign-up notices weeks ahead of time and join in the fun.

3. Tin Cup
The Tin Cup Tournament began in 2001. This tournament is held once a year and is a competition between the Ladies of the LGA versus the Men of the MGA.
This tournament is co-chaired each year by the respective Presidents of each (LGA & MGA) Association. The Chairpersons select the date and the “game” to be played and will post notices and sign-up sheets for those who want to participate. For the past several years the game has been “Match Play”, with handicap.
After play there is a luncheon for all participants at a nominal fee. There are no individual prizes awarded, just “bragging rights” to the winners, either the LGA or the MGA. A “Tin Cup Trophy” is passed along to or retained by either the President of the LGA or the President of the MGA. The trophy will be engraved after the game and is displayed throughout the year in the Clubhouse at Glenlakes.
This tournament is anticipated each year by all who participate. It is a fun and exciting day and a great social event for everyone. Much “todo” begins weeks before the tournament date and lasts weeks afterwards -- especially for the winners!!
4. Club Championship
The Ladies Club Championship is usually held during the month of September. It is held in conjunction with the MGA Championship. The championship is a two day flighted event (Saturday and Sunday) followed by a luncheon on Sunday. There are two winners in each flight - low gross and low net for the combination of the two days. There is no cost to play in this event or for the luncheon on Sunday. Contact Cheryl Hoffman, 251-962-3339, E-mail choff@gulftel.com
5. Santa’s Follies
Santa’s Follies is a Charity Event usually held the first Saturday in December. The President of the LGA appoints a Chairperson to head this tournament. Mulligans are sold, 50/50 tickets are sold and nominal prize money is paid as this is a Charity Tournament.
A representative from the LGA contacts a Charitable Institution and we are given “families to sponsor”. When the tournament prizes and luncheon expenses are paid, the remainder is used to purchase gifts for the families.
When the gifts are purchased and wrapped, they are delivered to the Charitable Institution. We are not given the names of the recipients, only what “Santa Needs to Drop Down the Chimney”!
This tournament is greatly supported by not only the Ladies Golf Association but the Mens Golf Association and Glenlakes Golf Club as well.
6. TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS
The Tournament of Champions (TOC) is a tournament established to allow the top 20 to 24 money winners of a given calendar year to compete against each other for cash prize money. The monies are collected each week at the regular Wednesday playday events. The fee for playing in the playday event is $3.00 with $2.00 going to our regular Wednesday events and $1.00 to go toward the pot for the Tournament of Champions. The more a member plays in the Wednesday events, the better chance she has of being in the top 24 money winners.
The TOC is held the first Wednesday of December in conjunction with the Christmas luncheon and election of officers. The eligible TOC competitors do not pay an entrance fee for that playday. The other regular playday participants pay their regular $3.00 fee and play for that amount in clubhouse credit.
The TOC participants compete on a total net score – low net wins first place, second low net wins second place, etc. If there is a tie for first place, there will be a playoff beginning with Hole #1 on the Vista. The playoff will begin after all festivities have been completed in the clubhouse - luncheon, meeting, awarding of monies.
Payouts are based on a sliding scale and made in cash on the day of the event.

8. Team Play Events
GlenLakes LGA is one of nine (9) associations that belong to the Baldwin County Area Ladies Golf Association (BCALGA). Each Club hosts one (1) playday each year. The season runs from August through May.
A meeting is held during the summer to set dates for the playing year. The Team Play Chairperson schedules the opposing teams. The format is Match Play with four players participating from each club. There are two (2) “A” players, handicaps 0-20, and two (2) “B” players, handicaps 21-34. Points are awarded as follows: One(1) point for each hole won, one-half (point for each hold tied and zero (0) for all holes lost. Total points won by each club are accumulated for the entire season determining the winner for that season. Four (4) players participant from each club in each match.
-The cost to each participant is cart fees, which vary for each club.
-Coffee, juice and doughnuts may be served at some clubs prior to play
-Lunch is at the discretion of the players
The Team Play Captain will put a list of the clubs and dates on the ladies locker room bulletin board and ask anyone who is interested in playing to sign their name beside the club or clubs they would like to play. These requests will be accommodated whenever possible. The Team Play Captain will select and notify the individuals that are to play. The foursome usually decides who will drive and the time to leave Glenlakes.
The Host Team does not play. It is the Host Team Captain’s responsibility to provide the scorecards with player’s names and handicaps and a rules sheet announcing any local rules. The Host Club will also have a Rules Cart roaming the course to answer any questions that may arise.
At the end of the season, BCALGA holds a playday, with lunch and awards to follow play. The Annual Meeting is also held at this time. All members in the association clubs are invited to this “fun” day. The Host Club sets the price for this event.
